How to keep your equipment in top shape

Maintenance is one of the most important factors. If you don’t keep your unit in good condition, it will eventually break. However, you can use a welding machine for years if you conduct regular maintenance occasionally. Here are a few things you can do to prolong the life of your unit.

A vast majority of welders use air compressors to blow out the dust that has been accumulating within the unit. For example, whenever you take off the cover from your unit, make sure to blow some compressed air through the grills on the casing. It will eliminate any small debris from the important electronic parts inside the unit. Also, make sure to keep it in a safe place, far from other activities like woodwork or anything that includes tiny particles that can find a way to the unit. Remember to put a cover on the machine when you’re done working. However, NEVER cover the machine while it’s turned on.

Maintain the equipment on a regular basis

One of the best things you can do is to establish a schedule. Many hardware stores offer maintenance procedures. It means you don’t even have to worry about it; all you have to do is take the unit to the local store and leave it there. Once they’re done with the maintenance process, they will call you to pick it up, and that’s it.

This method will save you a lot of trouble and time. If you don’t know how often you need to do this, feel free to ask the employees at the hardware store. An optimal schedule would be around every six months, although, you won’t make a mistake if you do it once a year. It all depends on how often you use it.

Replace the important parts

These machines have a few parts that need to be frequently replaced. It’s usually the tip and nozzles on the torch that needs constant replacement. The brushes in the wire feeder are also a part that needs to be often replaced. Also, maintenance for MIG welders is critical, because they have a lot of moving parts.
